A thuiste, most recent news at Gaelscoil Dhún Dealgan! Briseadh Meán Téarma/ Mid-Term break on Thursday and Friday of this week, February 20th & 21st, as per school calendar . Seachtain Chineáltais agus Folláine/ Kindness & Wellness Week: We are focussing on being kind to each other and to ourselves this week, so instead of written homework, the children are encouraged to carry out acts of kindness towards others, to be more mindful. less screen time etc. Each class has been working on a kindness ‘phrase’ and artwork to accompany it. The halla is looking beautiful as a result! Tráth na gCeist/ Credit Union Quiz: Maith sibh/Well done to Aoibheann, Dónal , Feilimí and Nóra who represented the school at the Credit Union table Quiz last week, and to M.Edel who prepared them. Dia dhaoibh ar maidin ‘Anois teacht an Earraigh, beidh an lá dúl chun shíneadh’ Hope you are all feeling a ‘spring’ in your step now that the days are a little brighter! Here is some news from the last two weeks: Tionól Lá ‘le Bríde’ / Special Assembly for St Brigid’s Day: The entire school community enjoyed a special assembly for Lá ‘le Bríde/ St Brigid’s Day. Rang 3 re-enacted the story of Brigid’s cloak (with very creative use of the play parachute!), Rang 2 sang a song to Naomh Bríd and Rang 4 recited a poem. A number of classes showed us the Crosóga Bríde/St Brigid’s crosses they made, played Gabhaim Molta Bríde, and we all joined in with ‘Brigid’s Kiss’ to finish. Beautiful art works decorated the walls of the hall for the event. Bhaineamar an-sult as! 2. DKIT Sport: Rang 3 are currently enjoying P.E classes in DKIT Sport. This is part of the training for students in DKIT and we are happy to assist them with this as our children are getting a chance to receive high-quality activities from the college students. All of the college students are, of course, Garda vetted. 3. The Tuairisc Aontaithe/Agreed Report form the most recent Board of Management meeting can be read here. 4. Today is Lá na Sábháilteachta Idirlín/ International Safer Internet Day. Every class from Rang 1 – Rang 6 will have a lesson about Internet Safety today. A thuiste, here is a round-up of some of the week’s events. Bailiúchán Séipéil/ Church-Gate Collection: Míle buíochas / many thanks to those who took buckets and collected at the various churches over the weekend. The collection raised €1800 approximately with one bucket still to be returned. This is a very welcome boost to school funds. Go raibh maith agaibh! Stampaí Nollag/Christmas Stamps competition, Cúla 4: Comhghairdeas/Well done to Rang 4 who took part in a recent Christmas art competition run by Cúla 4. They enjoyed their prizes! Maith sibh! Seachtain na Scoileanna Caitliceacha/This is Catholic Schools’ Week where we celebrate what it is to be a Catholic school. Lá na Seantuistí/Grandparents’ Day takes place tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd January, as part of Catholic Schools’ Week. Rang 3 and their Grandparents (or special friend) will attend Mass at 10 a.m in the Holy Family church and then are invited back to the school for tea/coffee etc . We will also have board games for adults and children, and Rang 3 will interview their grandparents! Seirbhís Dóiteáin/Dundalk Fire-Service will visit Rang 3 on Friday to speak about fire-safety in the home. Dr Colman Noctor will give a talk to parents regarding dealing with anxiety in children, and other issues that children can face around technology use. Bailiúchán Séipéil/Church-gate Collection: Coiste na dTuistí/Parents’ Council have got permission from An Garda Síochána to hold a church-gate collection this coming weekend. Please contact Laura Carr if you can give a small amount of time to this fundraising activity. Comhghairdeas/Congratulations to M.Caoimhe who was crowned Line Dance Champion at the Country Dance World Championships which were held in Orlando over Christmas. Maith thú, a Chaoimhe! Éide Scoile/ School uniform is to be worn every day please! We would welcome any old but clean bottoms for our store please! Béiltí Te/Hot Lunches: Now might be a good time to review your child’s choice of hot lunch – you should have a fair idea of what they will/won’t eat at this stage but it never does any harm to have a chat with them about it. Tinreamh/ Attendance: The Aladdin system will notify you automatically by text when your child has missed 5,10, or 15 days. If your child reaches this threshold, please understand that if your child is late, they may already have been marked absent by their teacher and the text will have automatically have been sent . When they arrive, they will then be marked present, and their attendance will be updated. Would you believe that 10111 minutes of teaching time have been lost so far this year due to late arrival , that’s the equivalent of 168 days! Also, 312 days have been missed so far this year due to holidays. The school does not encourage parents to take their children out for holidays during school time. Foirgneamh nua/New Building: Works on the new building are continuing -not much new to be seen on the outside but plenty going on inside with electricals, fire-safety etc. Snámh/Swimming lessons have begun for Rang 1 and Rang 2. This can be paid for on Aladdin Connect. If you forgot to pay for swimming lessons for Rang 3 -Rang 6, or indeed the Photocopying /Art expenses, we’d appreciate if you could settle that bill also, as soon as possible. Drámaíocht/ GSD School of Drama is accepting new students for 2025. 1.Seachtain Feasachta Coláiste: Last week was College Awareness Week and we were delighted to welcome the parents who came in to speak to Rang 6 about the college courses they undertook, and what career paths they chose. Míle buíochas/thanks to Sinéad (cogaisíocht/pharmacy), Genene (gruagaireacht/hairdressing) and Deirdre (seandálaíocht/archaeology). Go raibh maith agaibh! 2. Tráth na gCeist Chumann na mBunscol/Quiz: Comhghairdeas/ Congratulations to the team from Rang 6 who came third in the quiz competition organised by Cumann na mBunscol. Maith sibh! 3. Searmanas Cláraithe/Enrolment Ceremony :Comhghairdeas/ Congratulations to the children from Rang 2 who began their preparation for Céad Fhaoiside/First Penance and Céad Chomaoineach/First Communion as they received their certificates of enrolment at Mass on Saturday night.
